Although plastic is used to sustain human life, plastic is doing more harm than good. In other words plastic pollution should be limited. My map shows that there is a stream of plastic that passes through the bronx. My map is an alternative of NYC showing the contaminated water passing through the bronx. I did the research on the bronx coast lines to inform about the dangers of plastic. In other words, millions of plastic bags are used daily in the bronx. My map alerts the viewer on the hazardous plastic polluted areas. The problem is many people lack an understanding of the topic. Another problem people are unwilling to take action. The objective behind the map is to inform the viewer. The second Objective is to persuade the viewer to take action. The map “Trash in the City” by Rebecca Solnit the author made a great map on pollution. but not specifically on plastic waste , This map inspired me to conduct my own research on plastic waste. The author did good at identifying the pollution in the city, but didn’t explain the different types of trash being exposed. I believe it’s important to know the difference of trash and how some have more harm than the others. I observed the different plastic in the water and how it affects our environment.
Although many people believe that plastic pollution is caused by people’s lack of care of discipline, but it is mainly because of the lack of recycling centers in the bronx. Therefore , Plastic pollution continues to damage our ecosystem. For example, in the article “Progress of recycling in the built environment” the author Enric Vasquez explains how plastic pollution contributes to global warming. For instance , in the article it states “Plastic waste release greenhouse gasses into the air similar to burning fossil fuels”[Vasquez page 76 line 7].The quote from the article “progress of recycling in the built environment” supports the claim that plastic pollution damages our ecosystem because it explains how plastic waste has harmful material that contributes to global warming. Another example is a video on youtube called “ A radical
way to end plastic waste” by Andrew Forrest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5g9-4fx60A the speaker states “All plastics are building blocks from oil and gas”.To sum up this relates to my map because it shows the result of plastic pollution in the bronx, and that Plastic pollution should be limited because it makes our streets dirty and damages our ecosystem.
On the other hand, plastic pollution is giving the bronx a bad reputation. For example, many people who don’t live in the bronx see the bronx as a junk yard compared to the other boroughs in ny. For example, in the text “Plastic pollution purge” by Kate smith the author explains how the bronx is one of the main attractions for dirt accumulation. For example in the text it states “some areas of the Bronx where the sidewalks are not maintained by the building owners, and the result of this is dog urine smells, and dog crap all over the place along with garbage that are not picked up [Smith line 15 paragraph 4].The quote from the text supports that the bronx has a bad reputation because it explains how the bronx has historically been known as a dirty place for years. To add on, this contributes to plastic pollution because many people assume that the bronx is dirty so they don’t care to keep things clean. To sum up, this contributes to the development of my map, because it shows how the bronx is that bad reputation.
In fact, on a broader scale plastic pollution kills sea animals. In the article “killing of marine life: plastic garbage polluted area” by Paul Watson, the author explains how plastic kills many sea animals. For example in the text it states “entanglement and accidental consumption of marine debris is common for many animals including seals, dolphins, sharks, etc” [watson line 34].The quote from the text supports the claim that plastic pollution is harmful for animals because it states how the sea creatures are getting killed by plastic pollution. In other words this relates to my map because the sea animals contribute to the balance of our ecosystem so if they die off we can be next.
Above all plastic pollution gives the bronx a bad reputation. For example, many bronxites don’t like the beaches in the bronx because it’s polluted with plastic waste . One reason bronx For example, in the article “Project waste” by Jane Black, Black explains the things that are left on orchard beach. One example is line 10 second paragraph it states “91% of trash collected from the bronx beach is styrofoam and plastic” [Black line 10].The quote from the text explains how the bronx has a bad reputation from plastic pollution because it shows stats on plastic pollution on orchard beach. To conclude, plastic pollution gives the bronx reputation because the dirty ascuations on the bronx is true.
In conclusion, Although there are a lot of problems in the world, plastic waste can be fixed in the bronx by opening up more recycle centers. For instance , a video on youtube called “The surprising solution to ocean plastic” by David Katzhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mT4Qbp89nIQ it states “People in Haiti are able to make a living off of collecting plastic in their neighborhoods. In other words, if haiti people can keep their area clean by making a profit, this will have to be the same motive for people in the bronx. To add on, my map how there is less recycling centers in the bronx compared to how much plastic waste surrounds the bronx. To sum up , if we alert the bronx borough president we can help change our community. To finalize plastic pollution needs to be limited for the sake of our health, sea animals, and the world.

Chapter 3 : The Art of Quoting
To adequately frame a quotation, you need to insert it into what we like to call a “quotation sandwich,” with the statement introducing it serving as the top slice of bread and the explanation following it serving as the bottom slice.
Example:
X states, “not all steroids should be banned from sport.”
According to X, “-__________________.”
Templates for explaining quotations
The one piece of advice about quoting that our students say they find most helpful is to get in the habit of following every major quotation by explaining what it means, using a template like one of the ones below.
Basically, X is warning that the proposed solution will only make the problem worse.
Adelina Borrero and Miguel Huerta

Project day film
Today in the d building at 2:00 I went to an event with my bls class that honored Tori Morrison. Toni morrison was a was an American author, editor, and professor. A lot of her works revolve around black women defining their roles and striving to survive in a male dominated society.
They played a film was basically about words having power and how she grew up. People that knew her explained her books and her talents. They showed old pictures of tori and others from back in the day when she was little. She explained that she has had people ask her why she doesn’t write about white people. She made sure that white people were not dominate in any of her books. Tori wrote her books to speak not for the people but to the people. She did not exclude anyone out or in.

Child Poverty
In today’s world, the number of poverty is huge all across the world yet people are doing nothing much about it. Specifically talking about Child poverty in Africa and India. It is a global issue where the nations and the leaders of the powerful countries should take an action. However, they have failed and children are still dying from poverty. In my digital research, I will be doing research on “child poverty in sub saharan Africa.” I will be mappings sub Sahara Africa’s countries by showing whether the rate of children has decreased or increased in the past 10 years. Also, I will find out what people and the nations did and doing about this issue Wether it has positive impact or not? I choose this topic because after seeing numerous homeless people in New York, I notice how much they struggle everyday by not being able to have a home to live and food to eat and it is violation of human right. Considerig this issue, think about the millions of children and families die due to poverty. The fact that the children in africa are living with poverty and dying made me think how it is ok for innocent kids to die just like that and have not future? These thoughts made to want do research and find a ways to stop these children from dying.
Party City Helium Shortage Research topic
So far based on what I know, Party City and other party stores will start to go out of business due to a shortage of helium. The main suppliers of helium are located in three states within the world, Qatar, Wyoming, and Texas. The big problem is as more helium is being made, the more difficult it has become to buy more shipments of this element to support party stores with balloons. The question I would want to know is can some party stores still afford helium? and how many other party stores would be affected by this shortage, and how many other party stores will begin to suffer the same shortage? most importantly will it affect the United States only or will it become a global issue?. many other people will want to know, now that there is a shortage in helium will Party City begin to lower their balloon pricing?. Most Party City stores in America are suffering from the helium shortage, but I believe my main focus would be around the New Jersey/ New York areas. Mostly because these areas are to be the next areas where the shortage may affect the United States. Henceforth the shortage had started in 2018 and is possible to escalate towards the future. Many of these closings were reported to be in Illinois, Connecticut, and Washington, but many of these closings are not claimed to be a bad thing to the managers to Party City. It is that the store is currently working on a new deal to establish a new contract towards getting a new source of Helium.
Plastic in the ocean
The number of people that are unaware of the damage just the day to day plastics is causing to the ocean and marine life is to be scared of, because humans more often than not fall into the impression that plastic only affects the ocean and marine life not knowing it affects human health as well, how you wonder, well the chemicals from the plastics that some fish and mammals are unable to distinguish from food and eat them or that they’re simply exposed to stay within them, once these are captured for humans to then consume it can be very toxic to them. This topic should be spoken more about not only adults but to this generation, the damaged already made by those generations before us can still be mended by taking action and educating the upcoming generation who are less aware of these issues just a few previous weeks back I had a survey on plastic pollution and there was one question of how many people were aware of the about the amount of trash in the ocean and most young adults we not aware that approximately 8 million metric tons of trash making its way to the ocean annually. This is a topic everyone should not only be aware and educated on but also should be part of the “how do we fix it?” and “what can we do?” because if there’s no action is taken soon, by 2025 there will be more fish than actual marine life.
Research Proposal
For my research proposal I will be designing a map of the Bronx indicating areas where crime rates are high and adolescents are being hurt or incarcerated. In the past five years I have worked with children in the community center and I have seen a decline in participation with the kids due to the streets and the hours of activities at the community center. So I want to map these Areas so then I could try to propose a different way of trying to get the kids to engage in the programs or trying to keep young adolescents busy rather than being in the streets. So eventually I would love to get more resources around the areas for the kids can have an outlet and more of a safe haven in there community. Since i was young their was always limit timing and spacing for us to engage in activities. Within the city and in The Bronx i could map out on how many facilities that are avaivlable but not being utilize correctly. i belive with appropriate funding and the correct action plan we can save more kids and try to lessen the crime rate aroung our neighborhoods. I think the spacing in the schools should be allowed to be used as well afterschool and the evenings. One thing I know we can’t save all the kids in the neighborhood but even if we can save 40 percent of the kids around our communities then we could allow them to be great citizens.

Me being from and in New York at the time, steers me to zoom in only on this city for this topic of Social improvement. Lately, it has felt like there is a lack of neighborly care and love for one another which leads me to focus on the current times today. Me being a very thoughtful and careful person, I wish to somehow improve this deterring factor of mankind at least a bit if I can. Over time thinking and thinking, I’ve managed to come up with the thought of searching for any organizations, associations, groups, etc to try and at least make this topic known or more apparent. Therefore, I’ve managed to discover a team of psychologists by the name of the Manhattan Psychology Group. I tend to seek improvement of mental stability and social prowess in order to be able to efficiently accentuate the bright side of communications in almost anyone’s eyes. Enabling people the choice of learning more about what and why they act, react, and speak the way they do could help bring notice of how standards of living could become better as a whole. I plan on either coming up with some innovative, fun, and alluring way to make people interested in wanting to learn about themselves and the importance of everyone’s emotions together or to incorporate all of these aspects into catchy music to hopefully grab the attention of others through impressive sounding messages. I strongly feel that communication, understanding, and love could substantially prolong humanity, therefore this topic of the city was chosen.
