Research Proposal

My research proposal is “Gender discrimination in work place”. I will focus on The Bronx Borough. My interest in this topic is because, although all employment should have the equal opportunity and payment to each gender it does not happen in NYC. Described for The Washington Post “One million discrimination complaints have been filled with the Government since 2010”, Which 23 percent are discrimination because of gender. However, 82 percent of the employees never receive compensation or changes in the work condition.

Pew Research Center, found that 37 percent of women working in a mostly male workplace have been treated “as if they were not competent because of their gender”. Also a third of women who hired in majority-male workplace feel they have received less than a man who was doing the same task.

My question is, why those complaints never receive compensation or improvements? Afterward, The Title VII of the civil right (1964) said no one should be discriminated because of race, color, religion, sex and national origin. Also The Equal Pay Act of 1963 protects men and women from discrimination in the payment of wage based on gender.

At the end of my research I plan to sent a letter to the NY governor Andrew Cuomo just to remain him that  thousands of women whom reported discrimination and never received an excuse or compensation from their abuser, need to be heard.

Homelessness Effect

My research of what I’m going to map about is how homelessness affect our society. The effect of homelessness on society can be quite costly, not only in terms of tax dollars spent but on the strain it puts on social agencies, Individual and families. Homeless people spend more time in jail or prison than other population. On the other side part of it has a result of violating laws that specifically target homeless people. Homeless has an effect on both the individual and society. Society has to pick up the cost for homeless individual to get very basic service such as treatment for illness, places to sleep in and food to eat. Furthermore The effects on homelessness are huge on their physical and emotional health. Homelessness men and women don’t have the money get the medical care they need so they suffer from colds. Homeless people are more likely to get into drugs and alcohol and getting HIV. Also they don’t get enough vitamins to be healthy or sleep. Another thing is that homeless people are more likely to get raped and get into a physical violence because they don’t have houses to protect them. I would like to learn more about homelessness effect

childhood obesity

My research proposal is on childhood obesity, according to the OCCD report one in six children suffers from obesity, it can also have an impact on child’s physical and emotional health, children who are overweight have the tendency to remain obese through out their adulthood. Whiles researching I found out that poor diet, lack of physical activity, boredom, stress, marketing and lunch options are all associated with obesity. In the united states and across many various countries children suffers  obesity, using mapping in the islands nations in the pacific, such as Nauru and the cook islands appears to have the highest obesity rates among children ages between 5 to 19 year’s of age, but African countries like Ethiopia and Burkina Faso appears to have the lowest rate of obesity in children. In the united states the percentage of obesity is 18.5 which has affected 13.7 million children and adolescent as well, looking at japan ,Mexico, new Zealand and Hungary they also have the lowest in rate of obesity, but in the united states it has tripled since 1970. What I found out most interesting is that there’s soo many fast food restaurant which is cheaper and the most healthy ones are so expensive that people cant afford. My suggestion is that we should encourage our children to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables whole-grains, drink allots of low-fat milk, eat lean meat, fish and beans to get protein we should also discourage our children in eating sweets. My question is why are healthy foods expensive if they want to reduce obesity. Secondly why do they still allow some ad on tv that are not healthy for children. Thirdly why are there so many fast

Mental health crisis

My research and what I going to map is about mental health crisis. The part that I going to indicate on the map will be the Bronx NY. The reason I chose this issue is because in New York there are many people who are dealing with mental health crisis and they do not have the adequate help to deal with this situation. I will focus on the Bronx area because it is the place where I live and every day, I see people destroyed because of mental problems and ended up in drugs. In this street I see different types of people with this problem women, men, youth boys and girls looking for solution of their problems in wrong places. This shows me that the health department no matter how much they say they are not doing is not enough for this people. Unfortunately, many of these people are going to other types of help. Drugs and alcohol make this problem worse. These people need more medical attention, places where they can be to treat their problems, supporting not only from their family also helps from professionals who are treating their situation. NY needs more professionals staff to identify the people who need help with crisis Mental health on time. There are many people who have mental problems but because they do not have the right medical attention these types of problems are some of the reasons why this country pass through for serious situations.

A Bronx Map Of New Trendy Restaurants ; Cheap eats, Great Happy Hour.

The bronx is the lively, and often forgotten borough of New York , its the Birth place of hip-hop, home of the Yankees and with a hybridity of many cultures come great new restaurants. If live in the bronx, or just visiting one of our local tourist attraction like the bronx zoo, or the botanical garden this map will be your guide for a quick bite, dinner, or celebrating a special occasions with friends and family.

I will be conducting research in depth to find out how many people or visiting the bronx a year, what are they coming to visit ie: yankee game, family , Bronx Zoo, ECT, and out of that number i will be also researching how many are visiting the bronx restaurants. My goal is to inform these visitors that we are targeting about these hidden restaurants in the bronx that offers good food, and a very affordable price.

We will be highlighting both new and long time existing restaurants , starting from the very north part of the bronx , we will stop by Jake’s Steakhouse , and Cocina Chente for tacos, i will also show you where to get some delicious Vietnamese Ramen. Making or way all the way south to 138th street and feature the new and trendy restaurants like charlies , Mott Haven bar & grill, Ceetay for sushi & Japanese food . The map will feature Asian, middle Eastern, American, Mexican , Spanish , italian , and Jamaican food. I will be adding more as i get more in depth with the research. many of these restaurants i have visited my self, and reviewed on my yelp account .

MTA Struggles

My research paper is on the complications as a new Yorker taking the MTA transportation. As a NYC straphanger I can say that the transportation services that the MTA provides is lacking. The schedule in comparison to maintenance services makes getting around difficult. The fare increase without providing better services is ridiculous , the unsanitary conditions is disgusting, last min delays and route changes are un responsible. So with all these issues the main concern is when are they going to resolve these problems ? When will the issues of the people be heard ? What are the changes that are actually gonna be made ? How would these issues be solved ? Out of all these issues where will they begin to solve them ? Who will notice the peoples issues and bring them to light in wanting to make a change? Why were these problems ignored for so long ? These are the necessary questions that the people of new York want to know. As it affects there lives daily . People of all ages from an old age to a very young age that it affects . Especially the disabled people so cant take the stairs or stand for very long . People who just want to go to work or get to school even parents who want to pick up their kids needs a way to get there . Everyone relies on the MTA probably thousands of people and for them to be ignored is a huge issue to society . Weather wise is huge as well to me the MTA needs to step up .

Missing(abducted) women in NYC

My research proposal is on missing women, abducted or kidnapped. I would like to know if, how dangerous a neighborhood is, higher crime rate has anything to do with women going missing.Does the fact that a neighborhood have less police presence or video camera around businesses let kidnappers get away with committing a crime. Does race make one more likely to be abducted. Height and also weight has a huge impact on how an assailant chooses his victim.   I would like to narrow my research down to NYC or preferably The Bronx. The time frame within the last five years. Why are some women more vulnerable to being abducted than others. How are these women being kidnapped, are they all being dragged into a car,or taken from their home. Last year more than 13,000 people were reported missing in NYC, Of these 13,000, how many were women, how many were found alive or how many were found dead. Is there any suspects and are the suspects familiar with the missing person or a stranger. Majority of these people are found within hours. Who is involved in the search and or rescue. How much money is spent in the manpower for the search team. Statistically speaking, is there an age range that makes certain type of women more vulnerable to being kidnapped. Has the rate of this specific crime gone up or down within the last five years and also does climate have a role, for example during the winter months in NYC, the weather outside drops significantly, making more people stay indoors, therefore less people in the streets to witness any crime being committed.

Research Proposal

My research will be about the trash that is seen all over the sidewalks, streets, and everywhere we see trash at and what are the effects of leaving trash everywhere on the planet.I noticed wherever I go I see trash on the sidewalks and on the streets around my home and around the high school I graduated from and I even seen people dropping their trash on the floor making Sanitation workers do more work than they have to.Trash also goes through landfills and recycling plants but that is only a small amount because most of our trash is all around us and is hurting the environment and us humans and animals that live in this type of environment. Some of our trash actually ends up in the ocean affecting wildlife and causing large amounts of the marine life to decrease.Plastic around the marine environment gain more dangerous polutants like PCB’s,DDT,and PAH which in turn affects animals and humans negatively. Other chemicals that can be found are Bisphenol A, Phthalates, Vinyl Chloride, Dioxin, and Styrene and they are harmful chemicals.Even oil refineries cause polution that are carried through the air which reaches from the warm south to the cool arctic which the chemicals drop and affect marine life. The questions I have are what other effects of trash being left everywhere are? Where is trash mostly seen at? Who is trying to clean up the trash left around? When will the effects of trash pollution take place? Why do people leave trash around? How much trash gets into recycling plants and landfills? In my map will be areas where trash is mostly seen and where recycling plants and landfills are located.

Research reposal

The topic for me digital essay will be the fall of arcades in New York City. I chose this topic because it’s one that interests me because my major is game design and that is where my focus is. I have always wondered how fun it is to be a gamer and go to a local arcade with friends. I have never been to a traditional arcade in my life so far because most of them have been replaced with different outlets, but I have been exposed to how fun they were to be a gamer and go to a local arcade with friends on television and video games. In the years 1978 and 1983 every gamer was going to these places because it was the only way for gamers to play their games, but as time kept moving forward arcades became a relic of the past. In the present day the arcade has been removed from the spotlight now that most people have access to home video game consoles and being able to talk and play games with others from the comfort of their homes with the use of gaming headsets and the internet, so there is no reason to go outside and mingle with other gamers . I grew up around the time home console were the way to play your games and never got to an arcade as a child, So I want to create a map of New York City showing the arcade locations from the dates 1978 to 1983.

Research Proposal

Food is essential for everyday life. There are different types of food in New York. You can find food in different neighborhoods including Little Italy, Chinatown, and etc. Food is a major part of cultures and social practices. It brings people together as a whole. For the last three years since I have been back in the South Bronx I have noticed one thing and that is the lack of supermarkets in the neighborhood I live in. The lack of supermarkets leaves the residents to buy food from bodegas or corner stores. The reason there is a shortage is because the South Bronx is in poverty. Supermarkets tend to be large and can take up half a city block. There is less space in the neighborhoods of the South Bronx to build supermarkets without making the residents there homeless or pushing them out of the borough. The one supermarket in my neighborhood is near the projects and everything in there is overpriced, so people can’t afford to buy healthy foods for their families. South Bronx has the largest supplier of produce right in Hunts Point and it feeds the region with 80% of fresh produce and 40% of its fresh meats, but the residents aren’t receiving it because the neighborhood has so little supermarkets. The Bronx is considered a food desert since it’s lacking the access to healthy and affordable foods. This has been an ongoing problem for more than 10 years and it needs to be fixed.
