I will be mapping about racial profiling. To give you a quick entrance on my topic I’ll leave you this. There are many questions about racial profiling that still do not know the answer, such as, how does racial profiling in the past, affects the present? Are there cases of racial profiling today and what are they? Why colored, different religion, different ethnicity, has a certain impact in U.S. law enforcement? Judging someone just because they have a different color of skin happens every day and affects not only the victim, but it has a significant effect on the whole society, indeed, public safety. It is basically assuming some charges based on no real evidence.Racial profiling is the act of suspecting or targeting a person of a certain race for committing an offense. Racial profiling is illegal, however, it still a social controversy, it violates the U.S. Constitution’s core that promises equality under the law for everyone. It occurs especially when an officer accuse people based on their race, ethnicity or religion without any proof of criminal offense. Racial profiling is ineffective as an strategy from the law enforcement agencies and an offense for the 14th amendment of the constitution which states that “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”  

Party City Helium Shortage Research topic

So far based on what I know, Party City and other party stores will start to go out of business due to a shortage of helium. The main suppliers of helium are located in three states within the world, Qatar, Wyoming, and Texas. The big problem is as more helium is being made, the more difficult it has become to buy more shipments of this element to support party stores with balloons. The question I would want to know is can some party stores still afford helium?  and how many other party stores would be affected by this shortage, and how many other party stores will begin to suffer the same shortage? most importantly will it affect the United States only or will it become a global issue?. many other people will want to know, now that there is a shortage in helium will Party City begin to lower their balloon pricing?. Most Party City stores in America are suffering from the helium shortage, but I believe my main focus would be around the New Jersey/ New York areas. Mostly because these areas are to be the next areas where the shortage may affect the United States. Henceforth the shortage had started in 2018 and is possible to escalate towards the future. Many of these closings were reported to be in Illinois, Connecticut, and Washington, but many of these closings are not claimed to be a bad thing to the managers to Party City. It is that the store is currently working on a new deal to establish a new contract towards getting a new source of Helium.

Plastic in the ocean

The number of people that are unaware of the damage just the day to day plastics is causing to the ocean and marine life is to be scared of, because humans more often than not fall into the impression that plastic only affects the ocean and marine life not knowing it affects human health as well, how you wonder, well  the chemicals from the plastics that some fish and mammals are unable to distinguish from food and eat them or that they’re simply exposed to stay within them, once these are captured for humans to then consume it can be very toxic to them. This topic should be spoken more about not only adults but to this generation, the damaged already made by those generations before us can still be mended by taking action and educating the upcoming generation who are less aware of these issues just a few previous weeks back I had a survey on plastic pollution and there was one question of how many people were aware of the about the amount of trash in the ocean and most young adults we not aware that approximately  8 million metric tons of trash making its way to the ocean annually. This is a topic everyone should not only be aware and educated on but also should be part of the “how do we fix it?” and “what can we do?” because if there’s no action is taken soon, by 2025 there will be more fish than actual marine life.

Research Proposal

In today’s society, many people are having a crisis as a result of complications in their life, obstacles or mental disorders which can affect a person’s behavior and their way of thinking leading to suicide. I will be mapping murder-suicide attempts along with New York City subways stations for the past 5 years. My motive to illustrate this issue in our society is that the government should be more aware of the insecurity, danger, and exposure of the people on the subway stations since anyone can jump off on the train tracks and pull someone with them or even bring variety of weapons such as pimp bomb furthermore detonated where there’s a large group of people, as a consequence this can lead to traumas along with delays. One possible way that the government could improve people jumping on the tracks is by advertising the risks of standing close to the train tracks before the train came to a complete stop. For my map, I want to print the transit of the subway and select every station when an incident like this happened, therefore, develop forms to approach people to be more mindful also conscious of the consequences from actions like this.

Research Proposal

For my research proposal I will be designing a map of the Bronx indicating areas where crime rates are high and adolescents are being hurt or incarcerated. In the past five years I have worked with children in the community center and I have seen a decline in participation with the kids due to the streets and the hours of activities at the community center.  So I want to map these Areas so then I could try to propose a different way of trying to get the kids to engage in the programs or trying to keep young adolescents busy rather than being in the streets. So eventually I would love to get more resources around the  areas for the kids can have an outlet and more of a safe haven in there community. Since i was young their was always limit timing and spacing for us to engage in activities. Within the city and in The Bronx  i could map out on how many facilities that are avaivlable but not being utilize correctly. i belive with appropriate funding and the correct action plan we can save more kids and try to lessen the crime rate aroung our neighborhoods. I think the spacing in the schools should be allowed to be used as well afterschool and the evenings. One thing I know we can’t save all the kids in the neighborhood but even if we can save 40 percent of the kids around our communities then we could allow them to be great citizens.

New York is a very popular state where many people come and go or even decided to stay and follow their dreams. New York City is known for its tall buildings and wonderful restaurants that people come to see and dine at. While the city has its positive side to it, it also has its negative side which is pumping out smoke from rooftops that is causing air pollution. Air pollution has been slowly increasing in New York City which is putting many of its residents at risk of becoming sick. The cause of air pollution is from rooftops smokes and vehicles and many more. According to an article, “By the Numbers: Air Quality and pollution in New York City,” by Jeremy Hinsdale, it states, “One important measure of air quality is the amount of fine particulate matter that can be found in the air. PM 2.5 are small particles that are two and a half microns or less in width and are produced by vehicle exhaust, fuel combustion, power plants and other sources.” This gives us an idea as to what is causing air pollution in New York City. When you walk on the street during a cold season you could see many buildings are letting out dark smoke from the rooftop which is not good for the environment. As one of the most popular boroughs in New York City, Manhattan is crowded with vehicles and many of its buildings and restaurants need fuel to operate. With extensive use of fuel we’ve created a big problem for us which is air pollution that will not only have a negative affect on us also the environment that we live in.

Me being from and in New York at the time, steers me to zoom in only on this city for this topic of Social improvement. Lately, it has felt like there is a lack of neighborly care and love for one another which leads me to focus on the current times today. Me being a very thoughtful and careful person, I wish to somehow improve this deterring factor of mankind at least a bit if I can. Over time thinking and thinking, I’ve managed to come up with the thought of searching for any organizations, associations, groups, etc to try and at least make this topic known or more apparent. Therefore, I’ve managed to discover a team of psychologists by the name of the Manhattan Psychology Group. I tend to seek improvement of mental stability and social prowess in order to be able to efficiently accentuate the bright side of communications in almost anyone’s eyes. Enabling people the choice of learning more about what and why they act, react, and speak the way they do could help bring notice of how standards of living could become better as a whole. I plan on either coming up with some innovative, fun, and alluring way to make people interested in wanting to learn about themselves and the importance of everyone’s emotions together or to incorporate all of these aspects into catchy music to hopefully grab the attention of others through impressive sounding messages. I strongly feel that communication, understanding, and love could substantially prolong humanity, therefore this topic of the city was chosen.

 

 

Research Proposal

My research proposal is “Gender discrimination in work place”. I will focus on The Bronx Borough. My interest in this topic is because, although all employment should have the equal opportunity and payment to each gender it does not happen in NYC. Described for The Washington Post “One million discrimination complaints have been filled with the Government since 2010”, Which 23 percent are discrimination because of gender. However, 82 percent of the employees never receive compensation or changes in the work condition.

Pew Research Center, found that 37 percent of women working in a mostly male workplace have been treated “as if they were not competent because of their gender”. Also a third of women who hired in majority-male workplace feel they have received less than a man who was doing the same task.

My question is, why those complaints never receive compensation or improvements? Afterward, The Title VII of the civil right (1964) said no one should be discriminated because of race, color, religion, sex and national origin. Also The Equal Pay Act of 1963 protects men and women from discrimination in the payment of wage based on gender.

At the end of my research I plan to sent a letter to the NY governor Andrew Cuomo just to remain him that  thousands of women whom reported discrimination and never received an excuse or compensation from their abuser, need to be heard.

Research Propsal

For this project I will be creating a map of lower and upper Manhattan, which shows the different stops on the trains where it is accessible and non-accessible for those who are wheelchair bound and handicap. In my map the stops on the trains without accessibility are portrayed in the time period of 1973, because there was a lack of laws that legalized wheelchair accessibility. The stops on the trains with accessibility are shown in the time period of 1990 to present, because The Americans with Disability Act ( ADA) was signed and passed, and gave rights to those who had disabilities, access to public transportation. Why I am mapping stops on the trains with and without accessibility because even though the American with Disability Act was passed, it is becoming difficult for people with disabilities to get to where they need to go. Also I want to shine light on the fact that the modes of transportations, such as trains are being designed in a way that is not accessible for the disabled, and this is defeating the purpose of the 1990 Act that was legalized.

Homelessness Effect

My research of what I’m going to map about is how homelessness affect our society. The effect of homelessness on society can be quite costly, not only in terms of tax dollars spent but on the strain it puts on social agencies, Individual and families. Homeless people spend more time in jail or prison than other population. On the other side part of it has a result of violating laws that specifically target homeless people. Homeless has an effect on both the individual and society. Society has to pick up the cost for homeless individual to get very basic service such as treatment for illness, places to sleep in and food to eat. Furthermore The effects on homelessness are huge on their physical and emotional health. Homelessness men and women don’t have the money get the medical care they need so they suffer from colds. Homeless people are more likely to get into drugs and alcohol and getting HIV. Also they don’t get enough vitamins to be healthy or sleep. Another thing is that homeless people are more likely to get raped and get into a physical violence because they don’t have houses to protect them. I would like to learn more about homelessness effect
