Why do students dropout from college?

In New York, many students drop out for a number of reasons. A lot of time it has to do with money, time, or an unexpected emergency where they become unable to keep attending college or not go in the first place. One of the biggest reasons that students dropout of college is because of the lack of funds to keep going. Many students take out school loans, but that isn’t always enough. Between the costs of classes, books, rent, and just trying to survive is not that easy. In manhattan, college is more expensive than in other parts of New York since that is where many tourists go to explore because manhattan is one of the places you should visit since it is known as the city that never sleeps, due to that, to attend one of the colleges from there it could be pricey. According to “https://www.collegefactual.com/colleges/manhattan-college/paying-for-college/” Manhattan college tuition can cost between “$119,733 and $376,338 For a Four Year Degree. Between $59,265 and $181,571 For a Two Year Degree”. This shows how money can be a problem for the people with low economy which can lead students to drop out of college. Many students go into college with their major undeclared, which is completely fine. However, as you get farther along in college, you are going to have to eventually declare a major and just by attending to classes you have already spend some money when you don’t even know if you took the classes you were supposed to.

MTA Struggles

My research paper is on the complications as a new Yorker taking the MTA transportation. As a NYC straphanger I can say that the transportation services that the MTA provides is lacking. The schedule in comparison to maintenance services makes getting around difficult. The fare increase without providing better services is ridiculous , the unsanitary conditions is disgusting, last min delays and route changes are un responsible. So with all these issues the main concern is when are they going to resolve these problems ? When will the issues of the people be heard ? What are the changes that are actually gonna be made ? How would these issues be solved ? Out of all these issues where will they begin to solve them ? Who will notice the peoples issues and bring them to light in wanting to make a change? Why were these problems ignored for so long ? These are the necessary questions that the people of new York want to know. As it affects there lives daily . People of all ages from an old age to a very young age that it affects . Especially the disabled people so cant take the stairs or stand for very long . People who just want to go to work or get to school even parents who want to pick up their kids needs a way to get there . Everyone relies on the MTA probably thousands of people and for them to be ignored is a huge issue to society . Weather wise is huge as well to me the MTA needs to step up .

Missing(abducted) women in NYC

My research proposal is on missing women, abducted or kidnapped. I would like to know if, how dangerous a neighborhood is, higher crime rate has anything to do with women going missing.Does the fact that a neighborhood have less police presence or video camera around businesses let kidnappers get away with committing a crime. Does race make one more likely to be abducted. Height and also weight has a huge impact on how an assailant chooses his victim.   I would like to narrow my research down to NYC or preferably The Bronx. The time frame within the last five years. Why are some women more vulnerable to being abducted than others. How are these women being kidnapped, are they all being dragged into a car,or taken from their home. Last year more than 13,000 people were reported missing in NYC, Of these 13,000, how many were women, how many were found alive or how many were found dead. Is there any suspects and are the suspects familiar with the missing person or a stranger. Majority of these people are found within hours. Who is involved in the search and or rescue. How much money is spent in the manpower for the search team. Statistically speaking, is there an age range that makes certain type of women more vulnerable to being kidnapped. Has the rate of this specific crime gone up or down within the last five years and also does climate have a role, for example during the winter months in NYC, the weather outside drops significantly, making more people stay indoors, therefore less people in the streets to witness any crime being committed.

adolescence

Topic Adolescence:

According to what I know of adolescence is the transitional stage from childhood to adulthood. These changes occur in both mental and physical appearance and need to develop new social relationships and an increasing sense of responsibility and independence. That is to say, in the social development of adolescence many changes begin to happen, which includes, finding your identity and new relationships also teens take distances from their parents and begin to get closer to interact with kids of their age.

Based on my research I want to learn so many things which include the main social task of adolescents? I also want to know compare the role of parent to the role of peers during adolescent identity formation? And role of confusion? Again i want to find out the categories of identity formation? In or between what age does adolescent take place? How does teens form their identities? Do most teenagers eventually figure out a stable identity for themselves, or do most teenagers stay in crisis for a long time? Last but not the least why are peer groups important to identity formation?

What kind:  my research will base on observational methods and survey method to observe the role of parent vs role of peers identity formation?

How: by observing teenagers behavior towards their parents and peers. Also to give out surveys for both teens and parents so to get feedback from both groups.

Where: it will be based more specific in schools where teenagers gather the most and for the parents at workplace where they spend most of their time.

Which part: in the Bronx as a whole to the neighborhood

When: from now to the end of the semester, which will be end of October till mid December.

Why: because I want to learn more about teenagers and improve my knowledge in it and so on.

Tourist attractions

The topic under consideration is tourism. This topic is very interesting because there are many subtopics such as hospitality, food, and country, but my main focus will be on tourist attraction. Throughout this research I expect to find out a lot about tourist attractions in New York because I have not seen or visited some of these tourist attractions and doing this topic will give me a chance to explore and expand my knowledge on all tourist attractions. Typically most tourist attractions are considered for business, pleasure, accommodating or entertaining, so I would like to know the history of each tourist attractions and why is that place considered for tourist attraction. People believe that attractions are for its inherent or exhibited natural or cultural value but I believe tourist attractions have historical significance, natural or built beauty, sometimes offering leisure and amusement. I will be researching New York City because United State is one of the countries with the highest rate for tourism and has a lot of tourist attractions. Personally I want to find out why New York has the highest rate for tourist attractions in the United States and what effect does the city has on tourists. I want to find out why some attractions are on a tour guide and others are not but are considered to be tourist attractions. My map will show where tourist attractions are located, including the ones that are not presented on a tour guide and which city in New York has the highest rate for tourist attractions for the past 5 years.

Research Proposal

My research will be about the trash that is seen all over the sidewalks, streets, and everywhere we see trash at and what are the effects of leaving trash everywhere on the planet.I noticed wherever I go I see trash on the sidewalks and on the streets around my home and around the high school I graduated from and I even seen people dropping their trash on the floor making Sanitation workers do more work than they have to.Trash also goes through landfills and recycling plants but that is only a small amount because most of our trash is all around us and is hurting the environment and us humans and animals that live in this type of environment. Some of our trash actually ends up in the ocean affecting wildlife and causing large amounts of the marine life to decrease.Plastic around the marine environment gain more dangerous polutants like PCB’s,DDT,and PAH which in turn affects animals and humans negatively. Other chemicals that can be found are Bisphenol A, Phthalates, Vinyl Chloride, Dioxin, and Styrene and they are harmful chemicals.Even oil refineries cause polution that are carried through the air which reaches from the warm south to the cool arctic which the chemicals drop and affect marine life. The questions I have are what other effects of trash being left everywhere are? Where is trash mostly seen at? Who is trying to clean up the trash left around? When will the effects of trash pollution take place? Why do people leave trash around? How much trash gets into recycling plants and landfills? In my map will be areas where trash is mostly seen and where recycling plants and landfills are located.

Fashion In New York City

Around the world we have seen how much fashion has expanded and become important to people. We are aware of the latest brands and the sales that go on in the stores we shop in on a daily. In New York City we see Soho and 42nd street to be two of the places in where the streets and traffic are in chaos starting from the beginning till the end of the day. We see the stores overcrowded and tourist people walking along our streets with shopping bags. The brands that often catch our attention and has us coming in and out of them are Forever 21, American Eagle, Urban Outfitter, Thift shops, and many more. We get excited to see these brands have sales or discounts on holidays or within the week. Fashion has become a way we can express ourselves. We see everyone has a different and unique style from one another. There are people who like the style of vintage, casual, chic, artsy, and sexy. Fashion gives people a sense of freedom and feel beautiful each time they put on an outfit or when they have planned one. Fashion has allowed people to make bring their ideals my making their own clothing line or allowing artist who love to draw and paint bring their ideas onto their clothing. Fashion is not only based on clothing but on footwear, accessories, and makeup. When we are getting dressed, we look at every little detail. Such as if our hair came out just as we planned, does our footwear match with the outfit we picked out, what kind of accessories will we want gold or silver? and makeup will we want a dramatic or natural look. Fashion is based on the trend, unique styles, and a way to express ourselves

Research reposal

The topic for me digital essay will be the fall of arcades in New York City. I chose this topic because it’s one that interests me because my major is game design and that is where my focus is. I have always wondered how fun it is to be a gamer and go to a local arcade with friends. I have never been to a traditional arcade in my life so far because most of them have been replaced with different outlets, but I have been exposed to how fun they were to be a gamer and go to a local arcade with friends on television and video games. In the years 1978 and 1983 every gamer was going to these places because it was the only way for gamers to play their games, but as time kept moving forward arcades became a relic of the past. In the present day the arcade has been removed from the spotlight now that most people have access to home video game consoles and being able to talk and play games with others from the comfort of their homes with the use of gaming headsets and the internet, so there is no reason to go outside and mingle with other gamers . I grew up around the time home console were the way to play your games and never got to an arcade as a child, So I want to create a map of New York City showing the arcade locations from the dates 1978 to 1983.

*Impact of public school meals on teenage at a middle school in the Bronx.

The impact of public school meal has a positive and negative effect on the kids which could become a problem in the society. The positive aspect can be the fact that they provide food for the kids at school which helps improve their learning and also helps them focus more on their studies and not have to worry about food while they are in school. While the negative effects is that it affects the development of their brain, their behavior and their learning because the schools meals is inorganic and lack of substance such as fiber, minerals, calcium and carbohydrates. Also, it leads to obesity because many kids in the US but specifically in the Bronx tend to have a high rate of obesity due to unhealthy food the Food and Nutrition Services provides to the schools. Additionally, school meals contain a high calories of cholesterol, sodium and fats. When kids intake that into their body, it affects their ability of understanding and their eating habits. In “1977,school lunch lead to obesity” (food timeline. org). Children uneaten their lunch due to the harm it causes and therefore over millions dollar is waste. In order to eradicate kids from getting sick or catch disease, every public school should initiated a center education to empower youth on the importance of how to read nutrition labels and identify healthy foods. On the other hand, governments should play a major role by putting more regulation on the food their provide kids. This topic is to raise awareness on the negative long term of obesity because the youth are the next generation of Americans but through what is happened youth may be the first generation to live shorter lives than their parents. To avoid this from happening  we should not let this be our legacy.
